I’ve been using CPAP for a few years now. I needed to get a new machine and was doing research online. I’m seeing a lot of stuff about APAP. Are these two different types or treatments or are they interchangeable? Before I had a Resmed Airsense.

Hi! Great question! CPAP and APAP are similar but not exactly the same. A CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine delivers one fixed pressure all night, while an APAP (Auto-Adjusting Positive Airway Pressure) machine automatically adjusts the pressure throughout the night based on your breathing patterns. APAP can be more comfortable for some people because it only increases pressure when needed. Many modern machines, like the ResMed AirSense 10 or 11, offer both CPAP and APAP modes. They’re both effective treatments for sleep apnea, and the choice often depends on your sleep study results and what your doctor recommends.
