Hi, everytime I buy distilled water, it has been ozonated (in the fine print). I am wondering if using ozonated distilled water is poisoning me. I feel better with boiled tap water at this point. Nobody seems to know or care or even have one microgram of curiousity. I think its a serious concern given the ozone issues with CPAP cleaners.
Hi, thank you for bringing this up — it’s a thoughtful and important concern. Ozonated distilled water is commonly found on store shelves, and the “ozonated” label usually means ozone gas was used briefly during the purification process to disinfect the water. Ozone breaks down quickly and doesn’t remain in the water long-term. So generally, ozonated distilled water is considered safe for use in CPAP machines. That said, your sensitivity is valid — especially given the well-documented risks of using ozone-based CPAP cleaners, which can leave harmful residues or affect machine components if not used properly. If you’re feeling better using boiled tap water, it’s possible your body is responding to something specific in the store-bought water, even if it’s subtle. Just keep in mind that regular tap water — even when boiled — can still contain minerals that might build up in your CPAP over time. If you continue to feel unwell using ozonated water, you could try sourcing distilled water from a different brand or supplier, or even look into making your own distilled water at home with a countertop distiller. Your health and peace of mind are what matter most, and it’s absolutely worth paying attention to how your body responds — even if others aren’t asking the same questions ![]()
I have been using no water with humidifier turned off, climate control set to manual, and tube temp heater off and feel much better. For me, when I go back to the distilled water with ozone, I wake up with some lung difficutlies and shortness of breath throughout the day.
Hi there, thank you for sharing your experience — it’s really valuable input. While ozonated distilled water is generally considered safe since the ozone breaks down quickly after the purification step, your symptoms sound very real and important to pay attention to. Everyone’s body can respond differently, and if you feel better running your CPAP without water, that’s definitely worth noting.
Just keep in mind that using your CPAP without humidification is safe for many people, but it can sometimes cause dryness or irritation in the long term. If you’d like to continue with humidification without the ozonated distilled water, you might try a different brand of distilled water, or even make your own with a home distiller to ensure full control over what you’re using.
Most importantly, if you continue to have lung discomfort, it’s a good idea to let your doctor know so they can rule out anything else that might be contributing. Your health and comfort always come first, and your observations are exactly the kind of self-awareness that helps you get the best therapy. ![]()
